Steps to a Giveaway: Australia

15 July 2021 by Autumn Short

So, you’ve read about it online, heard about it from a friend, but you’re still not sure if you should make a trip to Kelowna, Canada. Why? Well, the reasons are pretty varied. One thing that stands out the most is that it’s a bit of a trip for no reason.

This wasn’t a typical tourist trip I’m talking about. I had already completed steps 1 and 2 before I even considered making a trip to Canada. So, what was it I was going to do in Canada? The answer was a little surprising but also well planned. Mission (and all the content of this article) were to visit Kelowna, explore it and share what I could do there, and then hand over a AMA Travel + Best Western prize pack to one lucky reader who can duplicate the trip!

To set the scene for this story, I’d like to introduce you to a fellow Canadian, Jason. He’d booked a three-night stay at a luxurious resort, which meant he’d have to take a plane to Brisbane and drive to Kelowna, which meant he’d be in the car for the bulk of the trip. As it happened, Jason was a big fan of koalas and so the trip to Australia was going to be a chance for him to see some kangaroos. In addition to wanting to see kangaroos, Jason wanted to complete his Canadian experience in as close to the land of his choosing as possible.

TIP: When you travel to Canada remember about evisa to Canada (https://eta-canada-form.com/)

It was on this flight to Brisbane that the idea for the trip came to me: to visit Australia’s only koala centre, complete with a gigantic zoo! This gave us four more days in Canada, making the trip well worth it in the end. We completed our tour of Australia’s koala centre by walking along the wet roads between towns in Victoria and New South Wales. The weather was perfect, the wildlife was magnificent, and our guide was an engaging and knowledgeable tour guide. The four of us walked to a road intersection where we drove towards the centre and parked outside.

When Jason and I arrived back in Vancouver, I immediately emailed Jason and informed him that I’d just completed my trip and that I was thinking of taking another trip to Australia in the future. Within a week, I got my email and called him, asking what the future plans were. He replied by telling me that he was heading to New Zealand, and that he was hoping to meet some locals during his trip, as well as get a few new kangaroos (which he’d already collected). The first steps to planning any adventure are always the hardest, but this one seemed easier than most.

All in all, I was really happy with the entire experience. The two of us ended up leaving with many great memories, and we’re both eager to visit Australia again. The next time we travel, we plan to make it into the koala museum, complete with all of its wonderful and incredible wonders. And after we complete our Australia journey, maybe we’ll even consider completing the first steps to a giving away Australia giveaway!
